MEMORANDUM FOR: FSC MEMBERS AND FRIENDS

FROM: DICK DINGMAN
SUBJECT: Donor List Disclosure Legislation
DATE: OCTOBER 9, 2001

According to the press, our coalition efforts seem to have paid off.

On June 13th 2001, FSC hand delivered a letter co-signed by 33 organizations, covering the full political spectrum, to all Members of the U. S. House and Senate, opposing H.R. 577 and S. 645.

Both bills opened the slippery slope of requiring Presidential libraries, expanded to require other nonprofits, to disclose the names of their donors. These bills were moving virtually unopposed until our letter was hand delivered. Now, the press describes the bills as "stalled" because of our efforts.

We have seen coverage of the bills, including mention of our opposition, in Roll Call, the Louisville Courier-Journal and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. I have attached the Arkansas article for your information. Click here to read the article.

Subsequent to the press coverage, I have also received a call from Independent Sector, which is now also considering joining us with a letter of their own.

BOTTOM LINE It pays to participate in coalition efforts. There is strength in numbers.
